Welcome from EBAP's President

EBAP has recently been reconstituted and will now operate under supervision of a Management Council composed of members nominated by the Forum of European Respiratory Societies (FERS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS). As before it will liaise with UEMS/EACCME in providing accreditation for CME events and other educational packages. We hope to be able to use the new electronic platform currently being commissioned by UEMS/EACCME. This should make the process of application for accreditation more user-friendly and faster.

The new EBAP is committed to improving the quality of European CME. It will develop detailed and rigorous criteria to encourage CME providers to create educational material which will influence clinical practice. It will attempt to change the emphasis in CME from teaching to learning. With providers, the new EBAP will explore the different modalities of education and the means of assessing their effects on learning. Doctors will be asked to demonstrate that they have benefited from an educational experience before being awarded CME credits.

We hope that the new EBAP will contribute to the quiet revolution which is taking place in CME provision, accreditation and effectiveness. Life-long learning should be exciting, challenging and rewarding.

EBAP's Activity

EBAP's main activity is to ensure the quality of international Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities in pneumology. It also facilitates and stimulates individual physicians to take part in CME activity.

EBAP accredits international meetings initiated and organised by medical/respiratory societies, universities and other groups. It also accredits distance learning activities and CME articles. At least two international experts, who are selected in collaboration with National Respiratory Societies, assess and review every CME programme submitted for accreditation.
